Mini Felt Mittens for a Banner or Bookmark

Since we still have snow on the ground, I’m going to share my mini felt mittens project. When I was a little girl, my grandmother and I used to make mini felt mittens while sitting at her farmhouse kitchen table. I haven’t made them since then, but for some reason those little felt mittens came to mind and I had to make some.

Mini Felt Mittens used as a bannerI had to think back and remember exactly how we made them (my memory is better than I thought!). My grandmother – we called her Mimi – and I used these as bookmarks, which you’ll see at the end of the post. I thought they’d be cute hung as a banner, too!

How to make mini felt mittensThese are so easy! Choose your felt and embroidery floss colors. Cut small mittens out of the felt.

DIY Mini Felt MittensEmbroider a flower onto one of the mittens, using a French knot for the center and a lazy daisy stitch for the petals.  I didn’t use a pattern, I just did it free hand. You can see how to make these stitches at the DMC website.

Embroidering mini felt mittensPlace the embroidered mitten on top of a plain mitten and stitch the edges together using a blanket stitch. Leave the bottom of the mittens unstitched.

To secure the clip to the felt, I added a small glob of hot glue onto the hair clip after tucking it inside. You can leave the mitten like this, or slide the exposed part of the clip into another mitten.

It all came back to me once I got going though!

  1. What a sweet idea! You are so clever.

If you have a minute I’d be thrilled if you could pop on over to my blog and share this gorgeous post at my weekly Say G’day Saturday linky party. It has just started and this would be a great addition.
