Why I Love Farmhouse Style and a Winner!

You may remember from a few weeks ago that I wrote about the chance to win a $350 store credit to Polder’s Old World Market to purchase your own set of wooden spoons and chef utensils (winner announced at the end of this post)! Their beautiful hand carved spoons and spurtles possess elements that I love about farmhouse style. There’s just something about simple, handmade items for the home that tug at my heart strings. Here’s a few more reasons why I love farmhouse style …

Clapboard Farmhouse built in 1875Here’s my clapboard farmhouse with flowering baskets on a warm summer day. It’s not fancy, but it’s comfortable and practical … and it possesses architectural elements that really appeal to me.

Summer on a Farmhouse Front PorchI love the simple pleasure of relaxing on my front porch watching the world go by!

Summer Farmhouse Floral ArrangementSimple floral arrangements in utilitarian pitchers are another element of farmhouse style that I love. No fussy, elaborate flower bouquets. Just a sweet bunch of sunny daisies does the trick!

Homespun vintage tablecloth in a farmhouse dining roomHomespun textiles and vintage table linens are an essential of the farmhouse dining room. An added bonus is that you can find vintage items for little money at thrift shops and flea markets.

Under the eaves farmhouse bedroom with wedding ring quilt.Since most farm families grow into their homes when they have children, every inch of space is utilized. Under the eaves bedrooms that were sometimes part of the attic are turned into sleeping quarters. I love the cozy appeal that slanted ceilings provide. More homemade textiles grace the bed in the form of a wedding quilt.

White ironstone pitchers and a vintage French scaleOf course, my favorite element of farmhouse style is simple, white ironstone pitchers. They can be used for serving, for decoration, for holding flower arrangements, and so much more.

Hand carved wooden spoons and spurtleAnd now I’ve added a new element of farmhouse style to my kitchen with these beautiful hand carved chef utensils from Polder’s Old World Market.

Congratulations to Jan S who has won her own choice of utensils from Polder’s in the amount of $350!! An email has been sent with instructions for claiming the prize!

  1. Hello, I just purchased a farmhouse that has more charm and uniqueness that a new modern home just can’t match. When I first saw It I was drawn to how comfortable and welcoming it looked. My wife did not like it but I know she will love it as we begin our life in this farmhouse. That old time look makes you remember the simple days when people cared about their neighbors. We can’t wait to begin decorating and making a home out of this 72 year old farmhouse. We feel blessed to have been able to buy It all our friends just love the look of it. It is a modern farmhouse which has the best of both worlds. It reminds me of the house Forrest Gump live in it has that Deep South look to it.
