Summer Afternoon in My Farmhouse Kitchen

Yesterday I spent the majority of my day in the kitchen. It rained in the morning so I figured, why not get an early start on canning some fruits and vegetables. I cleaned my farmhouse kitchen twice, canned dill pickles for the first time, and then got some peaches into mason jars, too.

Summer Afternoon in a Farmhouse KitchenI’m inspired to cook when the kitchen is clean and ready to go.

And when there’s fresh fruit and veggies … that just adds fuel to the cookin’ fire!

Pickles for Canning and Tomatoes for GuacamoleI LOVE this time of year when the veggie garden is starting to put out its bounty.

It’s a great time to try new recipes and get lost in the whole farm to table movement.

Pickling Cucumbers for Dill PicklesI started the cooking spree by making dill pickles.

I don’t know yet how they taste because they have to stay in the jar for a full week.

I’ll share the recipe in the next couple weeks. It was super easy.

Summer Cooking in a Farmhouse KitchenNormally I like my farmhouse kitchen to myself, but I let hubby in here long enough to make guacamole.

Actually, we ended up making it together (I love that he loves to cook).

I’ll share the guacamole recipe with you later this week.

Summer in a Farmhouse KitchenEarlier in the morning, hubby and I started our day with a trip to the local farm market.

Wire Basket Full of Georgia Peaches for CanningI needed some peaches to can Honey Lavender Peaches. Yum!

The farm market had perfectly ripe Georgia peaches.

Like the other recipes … I’ll be sharing this one in the near future.

Summer Afternoon in a Farmhouse KitchenThe lettuce is going to be my lunch tomorrow.

I like to eat a salad each day. That doesn’t always happen, but I try.

Canning fruits and vegetables in a farmhouse kitchenIn addition to the peaches and dill pickles, I was supposed to make fruit sorbet.

But I forgot to put the ice cream bucket in the freezer, so the sorbet has to wait one more day.

In the meantime … I’ll go eat some of that wonderful creamy guacamole!

Seasons of Home Summer EditionStop back tomorrow for a tour of summer inspiration from these bloggers.

I’ll be sharing a fun and simple summer centerpiece as part of the tour!

Until manana …

  1. Love your sunshine filled kitchen so much! We have about 4-6 weeks until the bulk of the garden is ready to pick and can and I can hardly wait to get started. I’m planning, getting my jars and supplies in order now. In the meantime the butter crunch lettuce, onions, broccoli and now fresh peas are going in my daily salad and we are enjoying that SO much! Growing a huge, lush, food filled garden is my favorite hobby and I love being able to go down in my cellar to pick out our food for the entire next year without having to run to the store for every little thing I need to prepare a good meal. I’m so thankful for the warm summer sun and the rains that keep falling with regularity this year!!

  2. A nice clean kitchen and fresh produce is definitely inspiration for cooking and canning. Sounds like you had a wonderful afternoon and you’ll have some yummy things to eat this winter!
