My Fall Mantel ~ Farmhouse Friday

Wow! What happened to the month of September?  It’s the 4th Friday of the month already and you know what that means …  It’s Farmhouse Friday! We’re celebrating fall decor because so many people love the fall season and decorating in the warm hues of autumn. I’ve added a new cow print to this year’s fall mantel, along with a few other farmhouse touches. Once you’re done checking out my mantel, be sure to visit my farmhouse blogging friends at the links listed at the end of this post.

Farmhouse Style Fall MantelI saw this adorable cow wall art at Antique Farmhouse and ordered it right away. It has a worn, vintage look to it and I paired it with 2 painted root beer bottles filled with wheat.

Farmhouse Cow PrintHere in Illinois we have lots of cows! We have several dairies in the area, not to mention Wisconsin is just an hour away where you’ll find lots of dairy farms.

Farmhouse Cow PrintMy cousins grew up in Baraboo, Wisconsin and I remember checking out their cows (and pigs) on their farm when we’d go up there for a visit.

CowsSo what do cows have to do with fall decorating?  Well, they’re earthy and have a beautiful golden brown color which reminds me of the fall season.

Farmhouse Cow PrintHere’s the Guernsey cow … docile in nature and well-known for its rich flavored milk!

Farmhouse Fall MantelI paired my new cow print with vintage books.

Decorating with Vintage BooksI try to collect vintage books in a variety of colors so I can use them no matter what the season. Since I’m going for a neutral-colored mantel, I’ve brought in my tan and black books.

Fall VignetteOn the coffee table, a wooden bowl full of pine cones and giant acorns continue the neutral color scheme in my farmhouse living room.

Farmhouse Fall VignetteOn the side table I’ve paired vintage books with a metallic over-sized pear.

Farmhouse Fall VignetteNormally I don’t decorate with a lot of metallics, but I liked this giant pear I found at Home Goods. The old books have just a hint of red to them, similar to the leaves turning color on the trees.

Fall Mantel in a Farmhouse Living RoomAnd so my farmhouse living room gets a touch of fall decorating with earthy colors sported by cows. Next Friday I’m sharing the second half of my fall home tour so I hope you’ll visit again!

  1. Jennifer, I LOVE LOVE LOVE that cow print! It’s perfect on your mantel! It looks wonderful on your mantel. We have cows practically in our back yard… and a couple of times on our patio. What a fun, farmhouse fall mantel!

  2. Cows grazing on a Scenic Pasture just screams Idyllic Country Imagery to me! We just made a Major Move from some Historic Acreage and Century Plus Old Home, which had been totally encroached by Urban Sprawl over the years… to the more Rural borders of a Scenic Mountain Range at the edge of the Desert, a New Build, but unspoiled to the West of us and State Trust Lands so that the View will always be as it is. We are close enough to the City to enjoy the best of both worlds too and it just doesn’t get any better than that. Merry Christmas from the Arizona Desert… Dawn… The Bohemian
