Christmas Decorating Inspiration

Christmas. It’s consuming my brain lately and this weekend I’m ready to deck the halls and get it out of my system. I want to do things a little different this year and turned to Houzz for some inspiration. Since I shared my Christmas Mantel on Wednesday this week, I didn’t do my normal Humpdays with Houzz post. But there’s no reason I can’t do it today, right?

I love this charming front door with its traditional wreath.

I’ve been looking for a wreath for my own front door but haven’t found just what I want yet.

Okay, I don’t really know what I want but I’ll know it when I see it.

In this home, they placed the tree right by the front door so it’s the first thing you see when you enter.

My mother did this in her previous home. And speaking of my mother, see that little tree in the box in the corner?

My mother had three of them and she handed them all down to me.

You’ll see them at my holiday home tour on December 2nd.

This is another view of the room in the second photo.

It shows that sometimes all you need for Christmas decorating is a few touches of greenery.

Here’s another example of simple greenery that makes a big impact.

Cut a small branch from a live tree and place it in water to last through the holidays.

I was so happy to come across this Christmas decorating inspiration photo! Why?

Because I have a set of wire baskets just like these and now I know what to do with them!

I love this classic front porch! The garland draping is giving me ideas for my own porch.

I was drawn to this photo because the front door is similar in color to mine.

I think I need to add one of those old iron knockers!

I like the color of the wreath ribbon against the blue of the door. So pretty!

This bright space proves that sometimes simpler is better.

Just a few greens and a crate of upstanding pine cones is all that’s needed to provide holiday cheer.

Finally, I have to share this front entry that stole my heart.

The doors are a little shabby chic and offset by gorgeous architecture above.

A simple wreath on just one door adds a quaint touch.

Hope you enjoyed this collection of Christmas decorating inspiration photos!

And there’s still time to enter the dinner and glassware giveaway valued at $200!

    1. You have a natural flair, Mary Alice. Your home always looks beautiful and I know it will all come together when you start decorating.

  2. Very nice. I tend to go with using lots of nature. On the front door I just get several branches of holly with lots of berries and tie a ribbon on. I love the very clean simple photos you picked out.

  3. I love this post, reading it on a very grey NE Kansas morning, with heavy frost on the ground and 16 degrees! Thanks

  4. Such beautiful ideas! I know what you mean though…I am really really really wanting to drag mine out and get it started now which is really unusual for me. Just excited and looking forward to when it is done…love love love the lights and sparkle.

  5. Jennifer, thanks so much for the great post with all the Christmas decorating inspiration! I enjoyed all. I especially like that beautiful blue door as a background for that deep green colored wreath. I still haven’t gotten around to painting my peeling red front door and every time I see one painted in colors similar to the blue one I lean more toward something in that hue. It really does make a gorgeous contrast with that wreath! Your own home and the pictures from Christmases past are awesome. Wishing you a wonderful and blessed weekend!

  6. Such fabulous inspiration!!! I love love love your choices. Today I decorating my tree and redoing my mantel. After reading your post I think I have enough motivation to decorate the whole house!!! Thanks sweet friend!

  7. I just loved sitting back and soaking in all of this Christmas inspiration, Jennifer. I do think that simple is always best, and I adored the sweet simplicity of so many of these charming homes! I plan on keeping it very plain and low key this year, too. Like sweet Sandra, the holidays are just missing something special for me with the passing of my parents. But I keep the true meaning strong in my heart and am loving the sound of Christmas music on the radio stations already. 🙂

  8. Love the inspiration. Right now we are in Spain and it doesn’t feel so Christmassy. The spirit is alive though and I know once we are back home the feeling will be there.
