The Romantic Home - book giveaway

One of my favorite homes featured in the book is a 1912 cottage located on a former dairy farm in coastal California. Everything in the living room, except the sofa, was found at flea markets. A soothing mix of greens and blues create a soothing vibe – perfect for a home just two miles from the Pacific Ocean.

In the dining room, a European antique chandelier presides over a farmhouse table, custom made to fit the space. The white sideboard was refinished with white chalk paint.

French doors lead from the living and dining areas into a light-filled family room featuring another vintage chandelier. Not surprisingly, the armchair was a flea market find and was covered in a linen grain sack that the owner found while on a trip to Paris.

What I love about The Romantic Home is the variety of houses featured. Fifi found a great assortment, from a high-rise condo to a countryside charmer. This next home is a circa 1881 Queen Anne Victorian located in Newport, Rhode Island. Surprisingly, the interiors are refreshingly modern yet romantic at the same time.

The Victorians loved using flowers and plants in their homes and this Rhode Island charmer follows the same biophilic approach to decorating. A maidenhair fern and pothos are paired with beautiful orchids for a stunningly romantic centerpiece. I now want to go to our nursery to get these same plants to recreate this little masterpiece.

The updated kitchen is not what you’d expect to see in a Victorian home, but it retains its romance through the use of plants and basket-style pendant lights.

A newer bed with a woven headboard in the master bedroom is paired with a beautiful, vintage Moroccan blanket that’s embellished with mirrored sequins. Pink and green striped pillows add color and levity to the room. I need to find a scalloped basket like the one seen at the foot of the bed. Isn’t it adorable?

Here’s a few more photos featuring romantic elements from other homes in the book. You’ll find oil paintings, antique furniture, and flowers throughout the pages.

Wearing its original green paint, a former apothecary cabinet was a treasured find that now serves as a sideboard in a Santa Ynez home.

Of course, you can’t think of romantic decorating without dreaming of soft ruffles, chippy furniture, faded florals, and furry friends.

  23. I LOVE seeing the different home styles. We built a “turn of the century” Queen Anne Victorian with a wrap around porch and 2 turrets. We moved in July 2003. We began construction in December 2001, by digging out the side of a hill for our 3 car garage, safe room and exercise area. The house is 4 stories, but only 2 can be seen from the front. The 4th story is a 6th bedroom in the “attic,” with a dormer on the back side of the house.

  24. Your home oozes comfort with all your romantic surroundings. Anyone would love to spend a night at your lovely home.

  25. This was so fun and I love each room. The apothecary cabinet is a stellar find : ) I love ruffles and black and white and I must say the blue and green living room is pretty. Oh and the woven headboard is amazing I wonder if someone made it? Thank you for the great find.
